Antica famiglia romagnola di parte guelfa ascritta al patriziato di Ravenna. Ebbe per capostipite Bove nel XVI secolo, e produsse vari uomini insigni, fra' quali un camillo assai elegante poeta che fiorì nella seconda metà di detto secolo; un Gian Francesco che esercitò con onore la volgare poesia e morì nel 1641. Molti di questa famiglia occuparono nel Senato i primi posti e resero importanti servigi alla patria. Di questa famiglia non si hanno più notizie dal XVIII secolo. Che i membri della famiglia siano noncuranti delle cose volgari, ripromettendosi dalle sole loro energie la dovuta ricompensa, lo provano i documenti fino ad oggi conosciuti come il Dizionario Storico-Blasonico del commendatore G.B. di Crollalanza che ne ha raccolte le tracce lasciate dalla famiglia in quelle città ove ebbe dimora ricoprendo cariche legislative, militari o altro, contribuendo non poco alla riuscita di quei documenti utili alla scoperta di questa famiglia.
