A origem deste ilustre sobrenome, baseada em referências de historiadores da época e outras encontradas por Araldis nos arquivos cadastrais de cidades e outros particulares, poderíamos afirmar, mas não assegurar, que este escudo ou outro muito semelhante a ele, apareceu inicialmente do século XI ao XIV, particularmente na campanha de Don Lope Diaz de Haro contra Sancho el Fuerte de Navarra, fazendo parte das tropas que tomaram vários castelos e vilas. As referências a esta família parecem especificar-se com maior frequência do século XV ao século XIX, sobretudo os factos do fomento da cultura da cana-de-açúcar nas Antilhas em 1644. Tudo isto parece coincidir com a memória familiar de alguns dos membros da família ramo da família Duró.
