Capostipite di questa antica e nobile famiglia, del cui nome si fregia una delle vie di Milano, é Arnoldo, esistente nel XIII secolo, abavo di Teodoro, altro dei Capitani della Libertà nel 1447 col fratello Luigi, bandito e confiscato quale traditore. All'avvento di Francesco I Sforza al ducato di Milano ottenne da questi il feudo di Meleto sul Lodigiano. Dal predetto Arnoldo discende attraverso diverse generazioni Giovanni (1428-1492), versato nelle arti liberali e nelle lettere, sepolto nella chiesa dell'Incoronata in Milano. Fu padre di Matteo, feudatario di Meleto, conte palatino, di Luigi (dec.1482), senatore, di Francesco, cameriere ducale, di Donato, il noto storico milanese e di Antonio, consigliere ducale e senatore, (dec. 1649). Da quest'ultimo proviene Fabrizio, vicario di Provvisione nel 1601, senatore, ambasciatore a Filippo IV, re di Spagna, creato marchese di Musso con diploma 3 luglio 1620. E' egli autore di una memoria apologetica su S. Benigno, vescovo
