Apellido de origen irlandés. Antonio Edwards y María Isabel Belleston, vecinos y naturales de Dublín, se establecieron en La Laguna de Tenerife, donde casó su hijo Santiago Eduardo, también noble caballero irlandés, con Doña Ana María de Róo y Bigot. El enlace se celebró en la iglesia de los Remedios el 7 de diciembre de 1717. De dicho matrimonio hubo seis hijos: Antonio José Eduardo y Róo, Sargento Mayor de las Milicias provinciales; Don Pedro Domingo, Doña Ana María Teresa de la Candelaria, Don Tomás Eugenio, Don Santiago Francisco, que fue Teniente de Infantería y Don Diego Nicolás Eduardo y Róo. Todos nacieron en la Laguna. Don Diego, que nació el 12 de septiembre de 1733, fue un notable arquitecto, autor de los planos de la Catedral de Las Palmas y de los de la parroquia de la Concepción de la Orotava, en Tenerife. Como su hermano Santiago, fue Canónigo
