Antica e assai nobile famiglia della provincia di Reggio Calabria, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. La chiara nobiltà della famiglia risulta confermata dalla sua presenza nella pregevole opera "Origini delle famiglie nobili di Siderno", di Giuseppe Correale. Il casato risulta diviso in due linee principali: l'una, come detto, in Siderno, l'altra in Canolo. Capostipite comune appare essere quel Domenico Staltari (Canolo, ca. 1570 - Siderno, ca. 1610), marito di Elisabetta Macrì di Canolo, da cui ebbe Francesco, che a sua volta fu padre di Giuseppe, Giovanni Domenico e Girolamo. Il detto Giovanni Domenico, nato in Canolo, sarebbe passato in Siderno intorno al 1640 ed ivi acquistò, dal di lui cugino Pietro, un vasto terreno. Nel 1666 stipulò con il notaio Macrì un atto insieme a Girolamo Staltari e insieme vengono detti fratelli. Nel 1669 compra con atto del notaio Macrì di
