Questa famiglia di origine Normanna, venne in Regno seguendo Roberto Guiscardo. Fu detta prima de Letto o Leto dal feudo di Castel Letto, e poi Castelluccia e Pappasiderio per la possessione dei feudi di tal nome. Si disse in ultimo d'Alitto nome conservato dai discendenti, e si vuole che venissero cosí chiamati per usare le Ali nello stemma. Questa famiglia ha goduto nobiltá in Sicilia e nelle cittá di Bitonto, Chieti, Sulmona, Bisignano, Tropea Castelluccia e Diano dove un ramo si stabilí nel 1600 circa. Il ramo di Bitonto si estinse in due maschi ed una femmina maritata nella famigla Giannone col patto che lo sposo e si suoi discendenti dovessero aggiungere al proprio cognome quello di d'Alitto. La famiglia del Sole nobile feudataria della Provincia di Salerno si estinse in Francesco al quale successe la sorella, Persia, maritata a Giovan Andrea di Alitto.Tra i membri piú illustri della famiglia
