Une famille romaine très noble, d'origine picénienne, appelée Elia ou Elia s'est répandue au cours des siècles dans diverses régions italiennes, françaises et espagnoles. Par contre, dans un ancien papier héraldique, relatif à la famille Elia, nous avons le plaisir et la bonne fortune de lire : « Cette famille, après avoir été transplantée à Rome, fut adoptée à Adriana, mais qui était à l'origine Picena, puis Franzese, et dernièrement Spagnola, qui fut la mère de nombreux empereurs et consuls romains ; mais la famille Elia surpasse de loin la susmentionnée Adriana ; puisqu'elle a joui du consulat en la personne du père Eliopeto, ayant d'abord obtenu la dignité de questeur jusqu'en 345 avec lequel le premier père Elio a été orné.Et Q. Elio Ceritano avait le consulat en 431 et 435. Et C. Elio en 467. Fr Elio en 553, et Sesto Elio en 556. Et l'autre Q. Eliopeto n'était pas
