La famiglia è una delle più antiche , e celebri famiglie della Repubblica di Genova, e quasi della Liguria, dove godè molti officij di Consoli, di Priorati, di Capitan Generale d'armate marittime,e altri supremi honori. E chì di lei ne vul sapere à pieno le sue antiche grandezze, legga gl'Annali di Genova di Pantaleon Giustiniani Vescovo di Nebia, il Foglietta, l'Interiano, e altri Scrittori Genovesi. Uno di lei dunque passò da Genova in Sicilia nel tempo del Rè Federico II con molt'altri Capitani Genvoesi. Questi fù Riccardo V., che per suoi militari servitij acquistò molti effetti in Sicilia, e poscia dal Rè Pietro II fù fatto Castellano della Città del Monte Erice, hoggi detta di San Giuliano, perciò quindi stabilì nobilmente la sua famiglia V. Da costui ne nacquero Pietro, Federico, e Nicolò V., che non men del loro padre servirono in molti importanti affari i Serenissimi Regi di Sicilia.
