Nobile famiglia si traferì in Sardegna nel 1739 un Giuseppe Filippo Arborio sposò l'unica figlia del conte Gerolamo Altea. Non avendo piu discendenza nel 1753 i loro titoli e il loro patrimonio passò alla famiglia Alborio, cambiando il loro cognome in Arborio e si stabilirono ad Alghero. Nei secoli successivi espressero diversi personaggi di rilievo nella vita pubblica di Alghero e Sassari. Agli inizi del sec. XX, legatisi a casa Savoia, svolsero un considerevole ruolo nella vita di corte. Motto della famiglia: "Ex forti dulcedo". Altro ramo. Famiglia sassarese le cui notizie risalgono al sec. XVII. Possedevano ereditariamente la signoria utile della tappa di insinuazione di Sassari e ciò aveva consentito loro di accumulare ingenti ricchezze. Nel 1744 un gerolamo, proavvocato fiscale di Sassari, ottenne il cavalierato ereditario e la nobiltà, nonchè il titolo di conte di S. Elia. Egli ebbe un'unica figlia femmina che si sposò con un Arborio
