Antica e nobile famiglia, originaria di Pisa. Il commendator G.B. di Crollalanza riporta la blasonatura di questa famiglia nei volumi del suo Dizionario storico blasonico delle famiglie nobili e notabili italiane. Molte sono le famiglie nobili Toscane, ma la istessa famiglia di cui menzione ne faremmo così come tramanda il Crollalanza, nel suo "Prontuario nobiliare, stampato in Pisa presso la direzione del Giornale araldico", Rocca S. Casciano Tipografia di Cappelli, nel 1867 - 77". La penuria delle scritture in quegli antichi secoli ci priva di quelle curiosità più nobili, che si possono desiderare, e particolarmente circa l'origine delle famiglie, le quali in gran numero trattando dell'antiche, di cui non v'è memoria, si vederebbero riconoscere un medesimo principio, dal proprio territorio dove vi erano molti Castelli, e Terre murate, le quali toccarono senz'alcun dubbio in parte a figli di chi dominava tutto, o in parte, e venute poi alla Città
