La famiglia è originaria di Mercato Saraceno, e andò a stabilirsi a Cesena sui primi anni del secolo XVIII. Primo ad essere ascritto alla nobiltà di Cesena fu Marco Giuseppe, il quale, avendo coperto le pubbliche cariche, ottenne gli onori competenti al grado nobile, di cui godevano gli altri signori consiglieri. Questa famiglia si innalzò per agiatezza e per dignità ecclesiastiche. Giambattista, di Marco Giuseppe, fratello di Giambattista nato nel 1715 sostituì il padre nei pubblici uffici; un figlio di Giuseppe, di nome Giuliano, nato nel 1759, diventò Vescovo nella città della Pieve; e un altro nome Giovanni, nato nel 1754, dottore in legge, occupò i saggi consiliari della sua città. La famiglia conta altresì esempi di civile benemerenza, tra cui l'avvocato Francesco, di Giuseppe, nato nel 1753; fu esule in Inghilterra, per amore di libertà, e consolò gli ultimi e tristi giorni di Ugo Foscolo.
