Originaria della Grecia, da dove si trasferì in Dalmazia in epoca assai remota per rifugiarsi quindi a Venezia, dove si vuole piantasse la sua dimora nel 997. Quivi si distinse in modo che innanzi la serrata del Maggior Consiglio e precisamente nel 1290 fu annoverata fra le famiglie patrizie. Ebbe procuratori di San Marco, membri del Consiglio dei Dieci, senatori, cavalieri, governatori e gran duchi di Candia. Giorgio arciv. di Corfù nel 1705. Giovanni ambasciatore della Repubblica Veneta in varie corti, e finodal 1718 insignito della carica di procuratore di S. Marco. Angelo uno degli ultimi ammiragli della Repubblica, vincitore delle armi barbaresche a tunisi e a Sfaz, e inventore delle batterie galleggianti. Questa famiglia oltre la conferma dell'antica nobiltà ebbe con sovrana risoluzione del 26 Dicembre 1819 il titolo e grado di conti dell'impero austriaco.
