Família Milis, cujas informações remontam ao século XIII. Ele estava entre as famílias dos maiores e, seus membros parecem envolvidos no governo da curadoria de Milis. Com a queda do Giudicato d'Arborea, o Espano decaiu e foi reduzido a viver em Milis, mantendo uma posição decente lá. Em 1736, obtiveram o reconhecimento da cavalaria hereditária e da nobreza com Francesco e seu filho Gianuario, meritórios, em 1765, do cultivo da amoreira. No século XIX, a família mudou-se para Oristano, onde em 1839 ele herdou do Valentino, por casamento, os títulos de conde de S. Martino, barão de Minutadas e senhor do distrito de Mandrolisai.
