Il marchese Giovambattista Epluca, figlio del marchese Nicolò, tenente generale nei reali eserciti, fu aggregato alla nobiltà messinese all'esordire del secolo XIX. Di quante famiglie illustri d'antica nobilità di sangue, e di attioni militari hanno fiorite nella Spagna, e nel Regno di Sicilia, non la si vegge seconda a niuna questa chiarissima famiglia. Però innanzi, che reportiamo tutte le cose, che di lei hanno scritto i cronisti di Spagna, e gl'altri antichi autori, si inserirà una antica descrittione sopra la medesima famiglia ritrovata trà gli scrittorii. Il Minutoli , Inveges, Mugnos e altri raccolti dal Palizzolo Gravina nel suo "Il Blasone in Sicilia, ossia Raccolta Araldica, stampato in Palermo nel 1871-75".
