Secondo una genealogia estratta nel 1816 dal notaio Mario Marostico di Portogruaro dall'archivio Fabris Isnardis, e autenticata dalla I.R. Cancelleria aulica di Vienna, capostipite di questa famiglia sarebbe un Giovanni Fabris abitante nel secolo XVI a Socchieve in Carnia, iscritto, come si afferma, nel Consiglio di Tolmezzo. Nicolò di lui nipote si trasferì in quesa città; ma i suoi discendenti non vi rimasero a lungo, poichè il pronipote Giovanni Giuseppe trasportò la famiglia a Udine, acquistando possessi nel Monfalconese. Sposatosi lo stesso Giovanni Giuseppe nel 1619 colla contessa Giacinata Savorgnan di Udine, n'ebbe diverse figlie, tutte accasate nobilmente nelle famiglie dei conti Susana di Udine e Monfalcone, dei nobili Janis di Tolmezzo, dei conti Camuzio dello stesso luogo, e dei nobili Ludovicis di S. Vito e un figlio Ottavio che verso la metà del secolo XVII sposò Virgina Magallunidi di Portogruaro, cui il manoscritto attribuisce il titolo di contessa, ed
