Famiglia originaria di Corsica, distintasi nella carriera delle armi. Nel 1728 la Repubblica di Genova ne confermò la nobiltà, che fu poi ancora riconosciuta dal re Luigi XVI nel 1771. Da un ramo collaterale di essa discende Felice, marito di Elisa Bonaparte e Duca di Lucca e Piombino. Nel 1832 il comandante Giovanni Andrea, naturalizzato toscano, fu ammesso al Patriziato fiorentino col titolo di marchese. Morto senza discendenti, il nipote Felice Andrea chiese la conferma di tali titoli per sé e i suoi; ciò che gli venne concesso con decreto del 19 luglio 1834. Con l'estinzione di questa famiglia il cognome passò in un ramo dei Rosselli del Turco di Firenze. Discendenti da Giovanni di Andrea. Parentela con Napoleone I. A pag. 105 delle "Antichità di Alessandria" il Bottazzi li include nell'elenco delle famiglie nobili e più illustri della città; l'elenco è tratto dal Cartario Alessandrino steso sino al 1300,
