Família nobre que procede, segundo alguns autores, de Gil, natural de Merufe, no julgado da Feira, nomeado pelo Conde D. Pedro no Livro de Linhagens. Como esta designação familiar foi, na origem patronímico, derivado de Facundo ou Fagundo, pode haver com ela famílias de proveniência diversa. O Conde D. Pedro diz que Gil F. se casou com D. Mor Vasques de Moura, filha de Vasco Martins Serrão e de D. Teresa Pais, da qual teve duas filhas: D. Mécia Gil, mulher de Gonçalo Mendes de Alvelos, e D. Senhorinha Gil, mulher de Estêvão Mafaldo, com geração. Náo sómente as filhas de Gil F,. seguiram o uso, tomaso patronímico do nome do pai, como Merufe, a não ser lugar desparecido, fica no concelho de Monção. É pouco provável, pois, que seja esta a origem dos F.. Outros autores falam de João Álvares F., pai de Álvares Anes F., e de outros,
