Originari di Fiesole e ammessi fino dal 1225 a far parte del Consiglio della Repubblica. In seguito più volte ottennero l'anzianato, comparvero tra le file dei guelfi alla battaglia di Monteaperti, e tra i principali di quella parte che segnarono la pace dal Cardinal latino. Istituito il governo popolare, ne fecero parte egualmente, e tra il 1282 e il 1498 ottennero per quattordici volte il priorato e per una il gonfalonierato. Chiarissimo ebbe gran parte nella edificazione del tempio della SS. Annunziata. Alessio suo fratello, morto nel 1310, fu uno dei sette fondatori dell'ordine dei Servi di Maria e si meritò dopo morte l'onore degli altari, onore che seppe meritarsi anche Giuliana figlia di Chiarissimo, istitutrice delle monache, dette le Mantellate.
