Il titolo feudale trae origine dai fratelli avvocato Saverio (deceduto s. l. 21 marzo 1790) e avvocato Giovanni (deceduto 9 gennaio 1790), che furono investiti il 16 gennaio 1784 delle borgate Barauda e Troglia (Moncalieri) da dirsi S. Oberto. L'avvocato Giovanni lasciò due figli, Francesco Maria e Paolo Maria, autori di due distinte linee baronali, di cui la seconda estinta. Il barone Francesco Maria, assessore del Magistrato della Riforma a Cherasco (5 febbraio 1790) mosse lite al fratello per la divisione del feudo. Se ne ebbe la sentenza camerale 9 settembre 1791, che mandava ad investire i due fratelli in solidum. Egli ebbe l'investitura il 5 gennaio 1792; il fratello Paolo Maria, il 28 aprile successivo, come erede dello zio Saverio suddetto. Il barone Francesco Maria sposò Adelaide Bogetti di Lachelle e ne ebbe tre figli: Saverio (n. Cherasco, 24 agosto 1776, deceduto a Torino 13 aprile 1854), sotituto avvocato
