Famiglia proveniente da Francia che vuolsi discenda da Riccardo I, signore di Montmorency. Quando nel 1554 Carlo V fece discendere in Italia un esercito capitanato da Pietro Strozzi, il quale esercito fu disfatto da Giovanni de Medici Mrachese di Marignano, lo Strozzi se ne tornò in Francia e molti del suo esercito si rifuggiarono negli Stati della Chiesa. Tra questi fu il capitano Greco della Fargna che si stabilì in Città della Pieve, ove stante la sua nobile origine potè subito ottenenere tutte quelle distinzioni riserbate ai soli nobili. Un altro Francesco si trasferì in Roma nel 1686 e fu nominato agente dell'Ordine Teutonico, Ministro dell'Elettore di Magonza, dell'Elettore di Treveri, e Ministro dei cantoni Svizzeri presso la Santa Sede. Questa famiglia venne ascritta alla nobiltà Romana con Senatus Consulto del 25 giugno 1777, ad istanza di Giuseppe e Giovanni Battista fratelli della Fargna. La medesima si è estinta con
