Illustre famiglia di Spoleto che è ricordata nelle carte dell'Archivio di Farfa come Signore di Montefranco e di Castel di Lago in epoca antichissima. Tudivo degli Arronii fu Cardinale di S.R.C. del titolo di San Vitale, poi Vescovo di Porto e Legato in Inghilterra. Morì nel 1186. Essendo la famiglia cresciuta in potenza ed in ricchezza, nel 1290 fu assalita dagli Spoletini e dopo aspra lotta, il 13 aprile 1291, furono stabiliti i capitoli di pace; ma poco dopo la città non volle rispettare gli accordi e tornò con le armi a spodestare gli Arroni nei loro feudi. Stanchi della lotta nel 1355 cedettero a Spoleto le loro signorie, riservandosi, però, molti diritti e privilegi, che vennero riconosciuti e confermati dai Sommi Pontefici. Fabio e Bartolomeo occuparono in Roma Ducale. Fra le parentele contratte da questa famiglia ricorderemo i Borromeo di Milano, i Cornaro di Venezia, i Pepoli di Bologna,
