Ancienne et noble famille d'origine espagnole, de vertu claire et ancestrale, s'est répandue en Italie, plus précisément en Lombardie, au XVIe siècle, mais avec des noyaux importants également au Portugal. A partir de 1498, en effet, l'état de Milan fut disputé entre le royaume de France et celui d'Espagne et à partir de 1536 il fut sous domination espagnole et c'est précisément à cette époque que, d'Espagne, une grande branche de la famille passa en la région milanaise. L'origine de ce patronyme, selon des généalogistes faisant autorité, doit être recherchée dans le latin "Filictosa", avec le sens de "terre riche en plantes et en fruits", probablement en relation avec les propriétés foncières de la famille d'origine.
