The Ferdani family, who had been in friendly relations with the descendants of Parma since the middle of the seventeenth century, gave Pontremoli a Mayor in the person of Giovanni Antonio, called to this position in 1712. Anton Maria di Francesco was licensed in 1777 for the Gonfalonierato. The family was ascribed to the nobility of Pontremoli by decree of 14 July 1780. The family is registered on the Official Italian Noble List in the person of the Descendants of John and Peter, of Antonio. The bibliography of this family is mentioned by the Marquis Vittorio Spreti, in his Italian Historical-Noble Encyclopedia printed in Milan in 1936.
