Ancienne famille sicilienne, appelée Ferla ou Ferla, de vertu claire et ancestrale, répartie au cours des siècles dans diverses régions d'Italie. L'origine de ce nom de famille, selon d'illustres généalogistes, doit être recherchée dans le toponyme homonyme, ou dans cette terre, autrefois baronnie et, selon la légende, fondée par les Lombards, située dans le Val di Noto, probablement le lieu de naissance d'un , inconnu aujourd'hui, géniteur. En tout cas, cette illustre famille, qui a joui d'une certaine noblesse à Syracuse et à Licata, à toutes les époques, a toujours réussi à se distinguer, grâce aux hautes personnalités, auxquelles elle a donné naissance. Parmi ceux-ci, sans rien enlever à la valeur des omissions, nous retenons : Luca, juriste, demeurant à Syracuse, en 1632 ; Antonio, notaire à Licata, vivant en 1657 ; Amedeo, docteur en droit, demeurant à Syracuse, en 1693 ; Giuseppe, juré de Syracuse, dans les années 1721-22,
