Apellido de origen castellano. Una rama pasó a Andalucía. Caballeros de este linaje probaron su nobleza en la Orden de Santiago. Doña Francisca Luisa Montañés, hija de Hernando Ramírez Montañés y Donís y de Jacobina Rodríguez de Evora, antepasados de la Casa Noble de Montañés, Regidores de Tenerife en 1675 y Patronos del Convento de San Bernardo en Los Silos, contrajo matrimonio con Don Francisco Pérez Pagés, Capitán de Infantería española, y procrearon a: Don Matías Pérez Montañés y Pagés, Capitán y Sargento Mayor por Su Majestad, Alcalde de San Juan de la Rambla, donde había recibido el bautismo el 22 de febrero de 1617. De su matrimonio con Doña María Ana Viña Gallegos, celebrado en Icod el 2 de diciembre de 1645, tuvo ocho hijos, sucediéndole en el Mayorazgo su primogénito, Don Sebastián Viña Montañés y Pagés.
