Antica ed assai nobile famiglia lombarda, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia e del Mondo, con insediamenti più cospicui nelle Americhe del Sud. In Brescia la famiglia è attestata sin dal secolo decimo terzo. Dopo la guerra tra Venezia e i Visconti e sopratutto quando fu vinto, per merito del valore dei cittadini, il duro assedio di Nicolo Piccinino, fra i primi figurano i due fratelli Giorgio e Nicolino Feroldi. Tal famiglia fu poi ascritta al Consiglio Generale della città quando vi si deliberò lo serrata, nel 1488. Agli albori del secolo decimo sesto, il patriziato bresciano si divise tra chi parteggiando per Venezia e chi per i Francesi: per i secondi era il partito guidato dagli Avogadro e dai Gambara e con essi vi era Giacomo Feroldi, che fu poi nel 1509 incaricato di portare la resa di Brescia al re
