Antigua y muy noble familia sarda, originaria de Alghero, aunque de origen genovés remoto, con residencia en Ittiri, Sassari, Portoferraio y Roma, que se extendió a lo largo de los siglos en varias regiones de Italia. La clara nobleza de la familia se confirma por la presencia, de su blasón, en la valiosa obra "Enciclopedia Histórica-Noble Italiana de V. SPRETI, 1928-1936", vol. III pag. 123. El 22 de agosto de 1617, un Gerolamo Ferrà, con diplomas del rey Felipe III de España, recibió los títulos transmisibles de caballero, noble y el uso de armas nobles.
