Ancient and very noble family of the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies, originally from Reggio Calabria but with branches in Campania, Puglia and Sicily. The family was confirmed in its ancestral nobility on 31 December 1594 while in 1731 it was decorated with the marquis title and aggregated to the nobility of Trani, at the seat of the Archbishopric. Even earlier, in the fourteenth century, he had enjoyed nobility in Sicily and subsequently a Nicolosio Ferrante, in the marital name, possessed the fiefdom of eastern Gurafi, of which his son Giovanni obtained on 20 November 1453 investiture. A Camillo, from Reggio, was decorated in 1594 with the rank of diner and royal family member. A branch of the family moved to Naples in the 17th century.
