Tenemos noticias de esta familia en Calabria desde 1202 con un Goffredo, dueño de bienes en la tierra de Albidona, según un documento de la Badia di Cava, reportado por Trinchera. En los juicios de nobleza a la Orden Gerosolimitano presentada por Ignazio Soriano, quien tenía una Maria Ferraro para su madre, esta familia se encontraba entre los señores feudales de Calabria desde 1282. Estaba dividida en tres ramas principales: la dinastía Antonello, que vivía en Cosenza y luego en Catanzaro, pasó a la Orden de Malta como cuartos de la cav. Atigrado; la familia Baroni de Crima, quien agregó el apellido Acciaioli a su familia, que reside en Catanzaro; y la familia de Cosenza y Acri de la que deriva la rama conocida como Epamimonda.
