La famiglia é originaria di Parma. Maria Luigia, duchessa di Parma, con diploma 13 dicembre 1820, concesse a Francesco Antonio F. il titolo di barone, trasmissibile ai suoi discendenti legittimi maschi da maschi, e gli confermó l'uso dello stemma gentilizio. Il barone Andrea F., figlio del precedente, avendo sposato l'ultima rappresentante della nobile famiglia Pelati, ottenne dalla duchessa reggente degli Stati Parmensi, Maria Luisa di Borbone, con decreto 22 aprile 1854, la facoltá di aggiungere al proprio il cognome Pelati e di trasmetterlo ai suoi figli e successori. Francesco Antonio, investito del titolo baronale, nacque a Parma nel 1754 e morí nel 1833. L'avolo paterno Francesco ebbe il grado di Capitano dell'Esercito di Parma, lo zio Giuseppe fu colonnello del Terzo di Busseto e comandante di Borgo Val di Taró; Francesco Antonio dottore in legge, divenne prima podestá di borgonovo, poi di Castel San Giovanni. Ivi compose un'opera di giurisprudenza
