Antichissima ed assai nobile stirpe della Lombardia, di chiara ed avita virtù, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia e del Mondo. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di autorevoli genealogisti, andrebbe ricercata, direttamente o attraverso ipocoristici o alterazioni varie, in un soprannome legato al mestiere di fabbro (dal latino "faber ferrarius"). In ogni modo, troviamo primieramente la famiglia Ferrari non solo nobile in Milano ma anche fregiata del titolo comitale e con l'illustre carica di Governatori del Lago d’Orta, per conto del Ducato di Milano. D'altronde questa famiglia visse nobilmente in numerose città lombarde. Nel XVI secolo fioriva ad esempio in Crema una famiglia Ferrari, di cui tre individui vennero ascritti a quel Consiglio nobile: Antonio nel 1519, Marco nel 1526 e Marcantonio nel 1535. Ma un altro Ferrari giunse successivamente in Crema. Un Luigi, di Francesco, originario di Castelleone in quel di Cremona, fu infatti aggregato
