Antica ed assai nobile famiglia, oriunda da Sartirana, in Lomellina, passata a risiedere, nel corso dei secoli, in Pavia, in Cuneo, in Torino ed in Savona. La tradizione vuole che essa tragga origine da un Raffaele da Sartirana, medico in Pavia, stabilitosi in Cuneo, nel secolo decimo quinto. La famiglia, che risulta fregiata di titolo comitale, con il predicato di Bagnolo, in ogni modo, vede la sua certa genealogia cominciare con un Giovanni Matteo, il quale, dottore in leggi, consegnava l'arma nel 1613. Da lui nacquero Bartolomeo e Raffaele; questo ultimo senatore a Nizza (10 dic. 1619), consigliere, gran chiavaro e camerlengo nei Magistrati Camerale e Straordinario (10 marzo 1623), poi gesuita. Bartolomeo, morto nel 1649, fu padre di Andrea, senatore, patrimoniale di Cuneo, marito per costituzione di dote 30 gennaio 1661, di Margherita Ricci del fu Gerolamo, morta a Cuneo il 20 febb. 1682.
