Sucursal de la casa Ferrari en Cosenza, según un certificado de los regímenes de Matera producido en el SMO de Malta por Giusepe y Nicola Ferrari de Matera en 1796. En Basilicata, los recuerdos más antiguos de esta familia se remontan a un Giovanni Ferrario, elegido Coleccionista en 1282 de Pecunia de la Universidad de Saponara. Pacichelli y Limaga hablan de la familia Ferrari, noble en Saponara, una familia que en la propia Basilicata se encuentra en Rivelli, donde residían los barones de Loquino en 1535, en Tursi en 1544 y en Tramutola, donde en 1550 trajo una rama de la Ferrara de Salernitano, barones de Silvi y Castiglione. Giovan Battista Ferrau, conocido como lo francioso, familia real, que obtuvo la propiedad de Gaspare Donatore confiscado por rebelión del rey en 1485, es el primero de esta familia reportada en Matera.
