Ancient Roman family, of clear and ancestral virtue, known as Ferrazza, Ferraz or Ferrazzolo, which has spread over the centuries in various regions of Italy. The origin of this cognomination, according to authoritative genealogists, should be sought in the medieval name "Ferrazzo", an augmenting variant of the more common "Ferro", although, in some cases, a derivation from nicknames or trade names cannot be excluded. According to some heraldic reconstructions, the family was originally from Catalonia, where it was called Ferraz. However, since there is no reliable evidence to support this hypothesis, it is preferable to believe that the house, as reported by Ceccarelli and Iacovacci, was included among the noble capitoline, at least since the tenth century.
