Antike römische Familie von klarer und überlieferter Tugend, bekannt als Ferrazza, Ferraz oder Ferrazzolo, die sich über die Jahrhunderte in verschiedenen Regionen Italiens ausbreitete. Der Ursprung dieser Erkenntnis sollte nach Ansicht maßgeblicher Ahnenforscher im mittelalterlichen Namen "Ferrazzo" gesucht werden, einer ergänzenden Variante des häufigeren "Ferro", obwohl in einigen Fällen eine Ableitung von Spitznamen oder Handelsnamen nicht ausgeschlossen werden kann. Nach einigen heraldischen Rekonstruktionen stammte die Familie ursprünglich aus Katalonien, wo sie Ferraz hieß. Da es jedoch keine bestimmten Beweise gibt, die diese Hypothese stützen, ist es vorzuziehen zu glauben, dass das Haus, wie von Ceccarelli und Iacovacci berichtet, zumindest seit dem zehnten Jahrhundert zum edlen Kapitolin gehörte.
