Esta familia es de la misma raza que el homónimo Mondovì, y es originaria de Antonio, hijo de Giacomo. El tercer hijo de Antonio fue Emanuele, considerado el progenitor de la familia. Se casó con Paola Doria de los señores de Oneglia, y de este matrimonio nació Luca, que era comandante de la flota del emperador Carlos V. Era su hijo Giovanni Domenico, que tuvo siete hijos de su esposa Bernardina Aicardi della Pieve, siete de los cuales, Giovanni Battista, que continuó la línea, y Emanuele, que instituyeron dos primogenitura con la obligación de que todos los que llamaron a la misma asumieran el apellido de Emanuele.
