Antigua e ilustre familia anconita, cuyos orígenes se remontan al siglo IX, y precisamente en el condado de Ferrette o Pfirt en Alsacia. Es tradición tener orígenes comunes con los Habsburgo y se atribuye la descendencia del noble linaje Agilofingi a aquel Antonio Ferretti que, hacia 1225, llegó a Italia, estableciendo su cuartel general en la llanura de Ronchi en Chiaravalle y Falconara Marittima, en aquella de Ancona, dando así principio a la gente de Ferratta. Las crónicas sobre los orígenes nos cuentan que Teobaldo, hermano de Ottopert de Habsburgo, fue el primer conde de Ferretto que vivió en el siglo VIII. El último de estos señores era un conde Ulrico y el propio emperador de Alemania, en verdad, tenía entre otros títulos el de Comes Ferrettis, como sin duda consta en el diploma de 24 de junio de 1589 de Rodolfo II.
