Famiglia originaria del territorio pugliese, di chiara ed avita nobiltà, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Annoverata tra le famiglie patrizie della città di Trani, sin dal 1479, fu decorata, nel 1718, del titolo di duca di Civita S. Angelo e, nel 1782, ottenne la reintegra al patriziato di Trani, al Seggio dell'Arcivescovado. Nel 1791 fu ricevuta, inoltre, nel S.M.O di Malta. D'altronde, tal casata, nel dispiegarsi dei lustri, sempre è riuscita a produrre una serie di uomini che resero illustre il suo nome, nei pubblici impieghi, nelle professioni liberali ed ecclesiastiche e nel servizio militare. Fra questi, senza nulla levar al valore degli omessi, contasi: Tommaso, giustiziere in Trani, fiorente nel XVI secolo; Nicola, dottore in "utroque jure", vivente in Trani, nel 1501; Battista, milite dei corazzieri del re Filippo II di Spagna; Benedetto, Regio Notaio, vivente in Bari, nel 1599; Tommaso, maestro di campo, vivente in
