Famille originaire du territoire des Pouilles, de noblesse claire et ancestrale, répartie au cours des siècles dans diverses régions d'Italie. Inscrit parmi les familles patriciennes de la ville de Trani, depuis 1479, il fut décoré, en 1718, du titre de duc de Civita S. Angelo et, en 1782, il obtint sa réintégration au patriciat de Trani, au siège de la Archevêché. En 1791, il fut également reçu au SMO de Malte. D'autre part, cette famille, au fil des décennies, a toujours réussi à produire une série d'hommes qui ont fait sa renommée, dans la fonction publique, dans les professions libérales et ecclésiastiques et dans le service militaire. Parmi ceux-ci, sans rien enlever à la valeur des omis, comptez : Tommaso, bourreau à Trani, florissant au XVIe siècle ; Nicola, docteur de « utroque jure », vivant à Trani, en 1501 ; Battista, soldat des cuirassiers du roi Philippe II d'Espagne
