Familia lombarda, de clara y antigua virtud, que se ha extendido a lo largo de los siglos en varias regiones de Italia. El origen de esta cognominación, en nombre de ilustres genealogistas, debe buscarse en algunas modificaciones del nombre propio latino "Philastrius", traído de hoy Santo, obispo de Brescia a fines del siglo IV y autor de un catálogo de herejías, titulado "Diversarum Hereseon Liber", probablemente perteneció a un progenitor, hoy desconocido. Sin embargo, en aras de la exhaustividad, no podemos guardar silencio ya que algunos historiadores quieren que el nombre de esta familia se derive de la aldea de Villongo, San Filastro, en la provincia de Bérgamo, el lugar de nacimiento de los progenitores.
