Ritiene, il G. A. Ascheri, nell'opera da lui intrapresa e eseguita "Notizie storiche intorno delle famiglie in Alberghi in Genova, stampato in Genova dal Faziola nel 1846", che questa sia una antica famiglia di origine italiana, passata in Genova, tra il XV e XVII secolo. Giacomo fu console dei Placiti, 1206; Benedetto ambasciatore al re di Francia, 1350; Giorgio, Giuliano e Giacomo si inalbergarono negli Usodimare, 1370. Poche sono le città, che vantano famiglie nobili sì antiche come quelle in Genova poiché, malgrado le vicende dei tempi, essa conta ancora nel suo seno molte famiglie che provano la loro genealogia da padre in figlio, mercé gli atti notarili dalla metà del XII secolo fino a' giorni nostri, vale a dire da un'epoca che serva di barriera a quasi tutte le famiglie d'Europa. Ma se ci mancano i rogiti anteriori a quelli di Giovanni Scriba dell'anno 1150, e di Lanfranco
