The exact period of settlement in North America has not been definitely determined but Information extracted from Public and Civil registry archive's confirm that one of the first settlers was a certain 'Abraham finch', a native of Yorkshire, was one of the early settlers at Watertown, Massachusetts, arriving in the same ship as 'Governor John Winthorp', in 1630. 'John Finch' emigrated to America in 1634, and settled at Watertown, Massachusetts, removing the following year to Wethersfield, Connecticut, and thence to Stamford, Connecticut, of which township he became one of the earliest settlers. Today, 'Finch' is the '962nd' most common surname in North America.
