Antica ed assai nobile famiglia di Rieti, di chiara ed avita virtù, distintasi nella celebre battaglia di Campaldino, propagatasi, nel corso dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. Alla fine del XIII secolo passò a risiedere in Arezzo e, agli albori del decimo sesto, assunse anche il cognome agnatizio Goretti. In ogni modo, la famiglia è iscritta nel Libro d'Oro col titolo di Patrizio di Arezzo (maschi e femmine); Conte (maschio primogenito) per concessione fatta dall'Imperatrice Maria Teresa il 27 febbraio 1767 confermata il 27 marzo 1769 e riconosciuta con rescritto Granducale Toscano il 23 settembre 1791. (Decisione del Ministero di Grazia e Giustizia del 3 luglio 1915). E'stata rappresentata dal conte Goretto, dottore in legge, della Corona d'Italia, ufficiale mauriziano, cavaliere della Legione d'Onore, della Corona del Belgio e del Sol Levante.
