Famiglia bresciana, di chiara ed antica nobiltà, propagatasi, con il trascorrer dei secoli, in diverse regioni d'Italia. L'origine di tal cognominizzazione, al dir di molti genealogisti, dovrebbe rinvenirsi nell'esito finale di un processo diacronico di mutazione del nome latino "Clericus", derivato dalla funzione di uomo di chiesa, probabilmente esercitato da un, oggi ignoto, capostipite. Il casato, sin dal XVI secolo, appartenne al Nobile Consiglio di Brescia e diede luce, come rilevasi da documenti ed atti notarili, sin dai tempi più remoti, a personaggi di elevate virtù, tra i quali, ricordiamo: Antonio, ambasciatore a Carlo V, in Modena, nel 1529; Lamberto, provveditore in Brescia, vivente nel 1557; Gerardo, ambasciatore ordinario della Repubblica Veneta, vivente nel 1532; Pandolfo, giureconsulto bresciano, vivente nel 1568; Niccolò, teologo e dottore in filosofia, vivente in Brescia, nel 1589; Giuseppe, dottore in Sacra Teologia, vivente in Venezia, nel 1604; Marco, consigliere del Veneto Senato, vivente in Brescia,
