The surname Floyd is of Welsh origin. This is the English attempt at pronouncing the Welsh Lloyd. The name was a nickname for a person with grey hair or who had habitually dressed in grey, from Welsh 'llwyd', grey. "Myfi yw Llwyd uab Cilcoed", I am Lloyd, son of Kilcoed.
