Former family from Brittany. Pierre, syndic of Quintin in 1696. The knights of this family took part, in the period of eleven centuries during which Brittany was ruled by sovereign princes, in the wars with France and England. The Breton military forces consisted mainly in his knighthood, to which joined some men of foot raised in the parishes; but after each campaign, all returned to their homes until a new summons or next ban. Several knights of this family were 'bannerets', that is to say knights possessing a castellany, and powerful enough to maintain at their expense a company composed of other men-at-arms and their retinue forming a force of twenty-five horses at least.
