Le nom ancien de cette famille est Grignon. Très illustre maison d'une haute antiquité, dont les premiers auteurs connus sont: Henry fit hommage au vicomte de Rohan en 1396; Guillaume abbé de Boquen, mort en 1434; Louise, dernière du nom, mariée à Tanguy de Kermavan, mourut en 1544. La seigneurie de cette famille a appartenu ensuite aux la Pierre puis aux Kerret. Autre branche: Jean, connétable d'Angers, père de Jacques, marié vers 1576 à Jeanne Pinot. Dix conseillers au parlement depuis 1576; un chevalier de Saint-Lazare en 1678; une abbesse de Saint-Sulpice de Rennes en 1704. La branche de Craon fondue en 1781 dans Cossé-Brissac; la branche de la Bourbansais et des Montils, fondue dans Lorgeril et Palys; la branche de la Douve a produit: Pierre-Ambroise, tué à Savenay dans l'armée Vendéenne en 1793, marié en 1769 à Etiennette Gourreau, noyée par Carrier à Nantes en 1793, dont entre autres enfants; un chevalier de Malte en 1780, un maréchal de camp en 1830 mort en 1854, et deux filles noyées par Carrier avec leur mère.
