Chiamata impropriamente Bendetti-Forestieri essa è Forestieri-Benedetti come chiaro apparirà dalle notizie seguenti. La famiglia è antica e nobile di Fano, ma originaria da Cesena. Da principio si disse "de Forensibus". Si trapiantò a Fano con un messer Cristoforo medico circa il 1400. Fu onorata della famigliarità dei Malatesta signori di Fano e venne ascritta alla Nobiltà fin dal 1439 nella persona di Gasparo di Cristoforo che fu aggregato al Nobile Consiglio Fanese. Molti membri ricoprirono l'importante carica di Gonfaloniere che era data solo a chi appartenesse al Senato fanese. Scipione fu dottore e luogotenente civile per S. Pio V nel 1567 in Romagna. Galeotto nel 1594 dottore; Filippo di Lelio (n. 1685) sposò il 29 dicembre 1714 Barbara di Francesco Maria Benedetti, patrizia di Senigallia e ultima di sua famiglia con l'obbligo di chiamarsi Benedetti e di far seguitare questa famiglia da uno dei suoi figli in Senigallia.
