Ancient and illustrious family of the Kingdom of Naples, of clear and ancestral virtue, which has spread over the centuries in various regions of Italy and the world. Legend has it that the progenitor of the Formisanos was a knight from the Lazio city of Formia, who escaped the destruction of the city by the Saracens in the year 842 and took refuge in Naples; hence the toponymic surname. In any case, the clear nobility of this lineage is confirmed by its presence in some valuable heraldry works, including the rare collection of coats of arms commonly known as "Stemmario Mattei", compiled by Count Edgardo Mattei, between the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the twentieth.
