La emperatriz María Teresa con un diploma fechado el 25 de febrero de 1747, actuada por el Senado de Milán en agosto del mismo año, le otorgó el título de marqués transmisible por derecho de nacimiento masculino a Lorenzo Fornara; y Francesco I Imperat. con una resolución soberana del 28 de enero de 1816 confirmó la nobleza antigua de esta familia y el título de marqués. Lo mismo también fue atribuido al patriciado de Pavía. Numerosos autores de la familia describieron eventos y personajes, atribuyéndole diversos orígenes sin ningún certificado válido.
